Hair Care Tips

Hello, New Mommies here! As I guess this stage will be quite a roller coaster filled with excitement and happiness followed by stress and tiredness as well. This is very common, and please don’t put pressure on yourself. Take your time, ask for help, and for sure you will rock being a super mom for the innocent and beautiful kid that has come out of you. Skin and hair go through a lot of changes during the phase of pregnancy and even after. We all have a lot of tips and tricks suggested by the elders and also in many youtube and blogs. So, for now, we will focus on Postpartum Hair Loss,  which is the saddest part of post-pregnancy.

I know, you could have thought now where is the time to do all of these.! It’s completely understandable, but make sure you put some extra effort into yourself. Self-care is one of the most important things that we should invest in ourselves. This will make us relieve some stress and make us a better version of ourselves. As we all know, stress, irregular sleep pattern, and improper hair care may be the top reasons for hair fall after pregnancy.

Here are some of the hair care tips post-pregnancy that will reduce to an extent.

1. Hair Oiling:

Oiling plays an important role in calming down stress and at the same time, it helps in improving blood circulation. This step will help in one way or another in reducing postpartum hair fall to an extent. You can take any single oil or blend of oils like coconut oil, castor oil, and kalonji oil. Double-boil them and gently massage them all over your scalp. This will help in increasing your blood circulation and at the same time, a good massage will help in relieving your stress to an extent. Massaging and Oiling are best friends which will help in increasing the blood circulation in your scalp area.

Tip – Spend 5mins morning and night before going to bed by giving a simple scalp massage. Put your hair upside down, and massage again for growing your hair naturally.

2. Wash your hair:

As we clean our body parts, it is essential to clean our faces too. In our grandparent’s and great-grandparents’ time, bathing is done from top to bottom, which is that every day is a hair wash day. Since washing every day in our busy lifestyle is hard, do them atleast once in 2 to 3 days. If you feel the scalp is dirty, then it’s time to cleanse your hair. It is natural for our moms to say that feeding with wet hair might induce cold in the baby. To be frank, it’s a total myth. Even if you are too much into that statement, you can breast pump and feed that milk with the help of your partner or parents.

3. Hair Mask:

Kindly don’t scold us or think this step is not for you. We can understand that masking is something that requires time and effort too. Especially if you are handling the baby alone, we agree that this process is quite harder to work on. But don’t worry, we have some simple tips that may be one of the best parts of postpartum hair care.

Here are some of the DIYs if you can spend like 30mins to 1hr for yourself by getting help from your parents or partner:

  • Protein Mask

Protein is something that is needed for all parts of the body including the hair. So, make sure to intake protein-rich foods like eggs, fish, nuts, etc. As you apply externally, it is also equally important to take internally too. For this mask, you will need one whole egg if you have medium-length hair and more or less based on the length of the hair. If you dont want the smell, you can avoid the yolk and use the white part alone. Just take them in your fingers and apply them on your scalp by dividing into sections. Wait for 30mins, and wash with any shampoo of your choice.

  • Coconut Milk

You can ask your partner or maid in your home to prepare coconut milk. Instead of store-bought milk, you can make them easily at home. Cut the coconut pieces, add a cup of water, and then blend and blend. Strain the milk alone with the help of a filter. Put the milk in a spray bottle and spray it all over your hair by dividing it into sections. This will help in moisturizing the scalp area, and at the same time nourishes too.

Also if you do not have any time, and manage all alone, here are 5 tips that could work:

  1. You can go for a readymade mask. Apply and wash them after 10 to 15min.
  2. You can also use rice water because we will surely take rice at least twice a week. You can store them and spray them all over your hair.
  3. Also, you can use any infused water like fenugreek water, aloe water, etc. instead of making them into a paste. Soak overnight and use the water.
  4. If none of these works, take any oil, massage them, and then wash them with any mild shampoo. This will be much easier than others. These simple tips might help in postpartum hair growth.
  5. Comb your hair twice a day, and use a wide comb; Also start combing from the roots to avoid hair fall due to tangles in the hair
